A stop in Salt Lake City

After the long, bumpy ride up to Bryce we decided to take the RV in for a checkup.  There is a Freightliner/Cummins place in Salt Lake City, so we headed up when our time in Bryce was over. I was able to find a Holiday Inn Express that has a water park and takes dogs (of all sizes! Not sure why most pet-accepting hotels are anti-big dogs.)  We got here on Mon. & dropped the RV off.

After a quick swim we drove downtown to the Capitol.  Beautiful building, beautiful city.  I was expecting like X-ray machines, etc., but you can just walk right into the Capitol and stroll around wherever you want.

From the top of the stairs

The statues are really big here. (This is BY.)

Then we drove over to the Temple Square.  I did not go to the Family History Library.  Don't have any of my stuff here.  That will have to be another trip.

There were little gold statues on the tops of those spires.
Chuck had been to an outdoor mall the last time he was here, so we went to look for that.  It was a really nice, upscale outdoor mall.  We found a place for dinner and then they let me do a little shopping after.

The next day we watched the USA-Belgium heartbreaker and then headed out to see the Great Salt Lake.  We were going to go to a state park marina, but there was a building before that where people were parking and walking down to the lake.  So, we stopped there.  It is called Saltair.  According to wikipedia (take it with a grain of salt, hardy har), it is Saltair III and was never really successful, but the first Saltair was a very popular Mormon resort in late 1800s/early 1900s.  It really is pretty crappy now. There is a tiny gift shop inside and I'm not sure anything else goes on in there, though supposedly it's a concert venue.  Also, wikipedia says the lake flooded it right after it was built in 1981.  The lake is so far away right now, I can't even imagine that.  It must be super low right now, as we walked very far to get to the water.  Actually, I turned around sooner because it smelled so horrible, even my bad smeller couldn't save me.  The ground was crunchy from the salt, and there were bird carcasses about every 3 steps.  We had to put our shoes in the bathroom when we got back to the hotel.  Yes, they smelled.

The gift shop didn't even have a pressed penny machine.

Where's the water?

Oh.

A crunchy salt layer

Some crystals
